Glebelands School Geography Department has been awarded the Secondary Geography Quality Mark as of September 2016.
The SGQM award process encourages and supports schools to reflect on their work and strive for the highest quality in their teaching. Glebelands Geography Department has undergone a rigorous moderation process over the past academic year where assessors reviewed all areas of Geography from student attainment, progress and achievement in areas such as geographical knowledge, understanding, values, skills and concepts and their sets expectations about the quality of teaching in Geography. The award aims to promote effective subject leadership and management, helping subject leaders raise the standards of Geography.
“We are one of thirty seven schools internationally to receive the award this academic year. We could not have achieved this award without the continued support from parents and the determined efforts of our students here at Glebelands who all work exceptionally hard to reach their goals.”
“Currently, Geography is one of the most popular subjects in the school, with a huge take up at GCSE currently at 90% this year, which is against a national decline. We have outstanding results every year being above 80% for the last five years and well above national attainment. We are a leading department within the school planning and delivering fun and innovative lessons. Here in Geography we always go the extra mile for our students and we are looking forward to taking 54 students to Iceland in November” said Ms Kayleigh Stoyle, Head of Geography.
