Mind-reader Rob brings maths to life

Maths was used to explain the trick of reading minds during the latest community science show at Glebelands School in Cranleigh.

More than 130 people attended the presentation by mathematician Rob Eastaway, which was entitled ‘How to Cheat at Mind Reading’.

He ingeniously brought branches of maths; probability and algebra to life by demonstrating their use in ways that left the audience in disbelief.

Adults and children were captivated as maths was cleverly manipulated to create illusion after illusion.

Mr Eastaway, an author of popular mathematics books for all ages and director of Maths Inspiration; a National programme of inspiring maths events for teenagers, presented his passion in a fun and engaging way.

"The feedback from all members of the audience was really positive," said a school spokesman.

One young audience member stated: ‘I really enjoyed it and can’t wait to try the illusions on my family and friends."

The Glebelands spokesman added: “We are extremely pleased that this was a really successful evening and that the local community enjoyed this event”.  The school is planning to hold future events, open to all members of the community.
