Carnival with the odd battle as school turns the spotlight on learning to focus

Creative activities on the theme of "carnival", a geography field trip and the English Civil War all featured during Glebelands School's latest Focus Day.

The Year 7 students were split into two groups, with half experiencing a selection of creative activities linking into the theme of carnival.  "Students thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the art, music and dance activities" said a school spokeswoman.

Meanwhile, the other half were busy using a different part of their brains, working in teams to solve a selection of problems and puzzles.

Half of Year 8 had a coastal trip to Cuckmere Haven for their geography field trip.  "All were exhausted after their four-mile tour studying the geographical landmarks", said the spokeswoman.  "The rest of Year 8 had a great time participating in a day based around the English Civil War".  "Students were able to handle artefacts and take part in demonstrations of games and weapons.  The musket fire at the end of the day sent shock waves through the school" she said.

Technology and the media was the theme for the Year 9 activity, with children again split into groups.  They had the early chance to experience aspects of technology they may encounter next year for their GCSE exams.

For Year 10 students, the day marked the start of a week out of the school on work experience placements, while for Year 11 students it was all about staying focused and continuing to prepare for - or take - exams.
