Young Enterprise is a scheme that is run to give people our age the opportunity to experience what it is like to operate a business on a small scale. This year’s company, Floe, has been tremendously successful and enjoyable for our employees; we are on track to give our shareholder’s a 50% return on their investment. We are a team of 5 Year 11 students from Glebelands School.
As well as gaining many skills that we would not ordinarily have had the chance to learn, over the course of the company’s existence, we have been able to provide our peers with many fantastic services and products such as School Leavers’ Hoodies; pens and pencils before school; selling Crème Eggs and delivering Valentine’s Day cards (all of which were, of course, sent with the most sincere sentiment).
Having to overcome the challenges of setting up and running a business was testing, but overall we have come out of the experience stronger for it. Our resolve was rewarded when the company won the regional competition for the best video advertisement. Beating a field of mainly Sixth Form opposition was definitely one of the many highlights of our time, and a lot of credit for this must go to Luke for his phenomenal penguin impersonation!
Finally, I would like to use this opportunity to thank any of you who have supported us by buying any of our products, this quite literally wouldn’t have worked without your much appreciated custom. Also I would like to thank my fellow directors - Annie, Emily, Luke and Chris - who have been indefatigable in their service to the company - for their skill, diligence and humour.
Managing Director, Floe.
