PRESS RELEASE – 23rd March 2018

Glebelands Students step up to Sports Relief Challenge

Glebelands Students took on the Sports Relief Mile Challenge today, raising vital funds for vulnerable people across the globe.

Calls of “On your marks, get set, get fundraising!” were heard throughout the day, as the whole school pulled on their trainers and pledged to make lives ‘MILES BETTER’ by fundraising for Sports Relief. Students and staff ran, jogged or walked a total of 500 miles, clocking up over one million steps (2,000 steps a mile).

Every step counts, as this year Sports Relief challenged the nation to collectively take more than one billion steps a day during its charity week. Glebelands’ whopping one million steps will be added to the nation’s running total of steps and the results will be announced during a host of live TV and radio programmes.

Glebelands pupils also took part in a penalty shoot-out against their Head of School, Mr Mitchell. Another highlight of the day saw teachers and support staff play against Year 11 sports stars in a Netball match. Experience triumphed over youth, with a score of 5 to 1.

Students also donated cash to come to school in their own sporty clothes for the day.

Mr Whistler, Glebelands Head of PE, said:

“Sport is a key part of our school day and today highlights one of the many ways it can change lives. I’m so proud to see the whole school coming together to raise money for projects that will improve the lives of vulnerable people in the UK and the world’s poorest communities.”
